On the ballot

Why this matters: Every voter in Massachusetts votes in the statewide races. For the U.S. House, you vote only in the district where you live.

Notes on the official list

  • The Secretary of the Commonwealth's '2026 State Election Candidates' page does not say the list is certified or final. The Secretary's sample ballots for November 3 show the same candidates, but each one is marked as not a valid official ballot.
  • Governor: the ballot lists each governor and lieutenant governor ticket by last names only: 'Healey and Driscoll' (Democratic), 'Minogue and Oliver' (Republican) and 'James and Kittredge' (Independent). We took the full names Maura Healey and Michael Roger Minogue from the Secretary's official results for the September 1, 2026 state primary. The independent ticket had no primary, so 'Andrea James' comes from the state Office of Campaign and Political Finance, which lists her as a candidate for governor whose name is on the ballot. That office is not an election office.
  • Incumbents: the sample ballots print 'Candidate for Re-election' under Markey and each re-running House member. The governor ticket line has no such note, so Maura Healey's incumbency comes from the governor's official website.
  • Districts 2, 5 and 7 have only one candidate on the ballot each: James P. McGovern, Katherine M. Clark and Ayanna S. Pressley.
  • District 8: the candidates page lists 'Robert G. Burke', but the sample ballot prints 'Robert Gerald Burke'. We used the ballot form.
  • District 1: the candidates page gives no party for Richard E. Neal. The sample ballot prints 'Democratic'.
  • We changed the ballot's capital letters to normal capitalization. We checked House races on one sample ballot per district: Palmer (1), Holden (2), Westford (3), Franklin (4), Belmont (5), Wakefield (6), Randolph (7), Braintree (8) and Barnstable (9).
