Separate reviewers checked a random sample of 48 facts from the ballot-measure research against the cited sources and found no errors. The rest hasn't been reviewed fact by fact yet, so check the linked source before relying on anything here.

§2Where this list comes from

The list above comes from these official sources. Researched October 27, 2026.

None of them calls the list certified or final, so we don’t either.

§3Notes on the research

What the research couldn’t find or confirm, in its own plain words. Nothing is left out silently.

  • The Secretary of State's 2026 ballot questions page and its final ballot question pamphlet list these four amendments but do not call the list certified, so the list is not marked certified.
  • The same page lists several petitions approved for circulation (two constitutional amendments on initiative and referendum procedures, a constitutional amendment to replace real property taxes with a retail transaction tax, and a referendum on Senate Bill 245) and other potential questions, but none of them appears under 2026 General Election Ballot Measures or in the final pamphlet, so we treated them as not on the ballot.
  • The Attorney General's final statements are posted as scanned PDFs; we used the Attorney General's titles and explanations as reprinted in the Secretary of State's pamphlet and did not read the legislature's joint resolution texts.
  • The copy of the South Dakota Constitution we used is the Secretary of State's July 2025 edition, filed under the office's prior-to-2026 archive.
