§3Notes on the official list

  • The State Board of Elections does not call its candidate lists certified; its Candidate Lists page says the lists are not always final and can change. We used the general-election list by contest generated October 13, 2026, and checked it against the State Board’s candidate spreadsheet updated October 25, 2026. The two agree on every candidate, party and district listed here.
  • The State Board’s candidate list abbreviates party names (DEM, REP, LIB, GRE). We show each party the way the printed ballot words it, from the official sample ballots the State Board publishes: Democratic Party, Republican Party, Libertarian Party and Green Party. We read 14 of those sample ballots, one for each congressional district and each cited on its race, and every one shows the same names, in the same order, as the State Board’s list.
  • District 11: the general-election list shows the Republican candidate as Jennifer Capps Balkcom, with a filing date of August 11, 2026, months after the December 2025 filing period. The State Board’s March 3, 2026 primary list showed Chuck Edwards among the Republican candidates, and he is not on the general-election list. The lists do not say why, and we did not find a State Board notice explaining the change.
  • The list does not mark incumbents, so we do not mark any candidate here as the incumbent.
  • North Carolina has no governor race in 2026, and the list shows no special election for a U.S. Senate or U.S. House seat on November 3, 2026.
